Hi there, I am looking to build a PC and was going to get the 5820k but then the 6800k was just released and I was wondering if it is worth the extra money. I can get the 5820k for $320 at my micro center, but I can also get a 6800k for $400. Is it worth the extra $80, I want to keep my PC for around 4-5 years?

Solution
On paper it 's worth it, real life experience may differ, however, if you intend to use this for gaming I would suggest to get an i5 6600K instead because an i7 for gaming would be a waste, and as for future proofing, I don't think that any PC really could last more than 3 years on top and run anything on max just like it began

Solution
The 6800K is about 5% faster per clock, overclocks a bit worse (maybe 5% worse), and uses a bit less power at lower clocks, but about the same when overclocked. Aside from a few tweaks, Broadwell is mostly just a die shrink of Haswell, which improves its power characteristics at lower frequencies.

then you might want to go for that i7 6800K, because then you can go for faster DDR4 RAM
