It does show up and boot from the boot menu (f12) but through the bios it is not a boot drive option when set to AHCI. It does shows up when set to IDE but not when set AHCI.

I am thinking bios update.....your thoughts?

Solution
You can usually switch Windows over to AHCI in the registry without having to re-install the OS. What version of Windows are you using?

I am not 100 % sure but that is likely. If that is the case what is the solution?

Win 10 Ult.

I found this: Would this work?

Now there is an easy solution that will allow you to switch between IDE and AHCI in the bios and Windows will boot without any problems. The key is to enable the AHCI driver in Windows before you make the setting change in the BIOS.

For most users this will work:
1.Open Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci.
2.Right click on the Start registry DWORD and select Modify.
3.Set the value to 0 and click OK.
4.Now the Start setting should be set to 0.
5.Reboot and enable the AHCI setting in your BIOS.

It will work, however I think the location of the registry entry may be slightly different. In your case though, you have an AMD chipset / SATA controller. You may have to enable the MicroSoft SATA driver first (msahci), then install the AMD SATA drivers if you want the "improved" driver. MicroSoft AHCI driver works, but it may not be tuned for your specific controller. I don't know how much improvement it makes to AMD platforms, but it definitely has an impact on Intel systems, particularly in the case of SSD's.
