Ok, I know I have posted this before but no one is able to answer for some odd reason. I have tried using fraps but no avail cause when I press the key to start, it does nothing. So here is the original post. Ok I need a good software for recording my game play on my gaming pc. I have tried some software already but it is not working. For example, it might not be able to record sound or it only records the computer sound and not my sound. I need it to record both and the sound from the computer is coming from speakers that I plugged into the audio jack from the motherboard. Another problem is that it can't record for longer than 10 minutes. So I need one that can also record for hours or whatever I decide to record that day. The last problem I have is that after I record it and play it, I can hear the audio but can't see the game play. I need it to record the screen and not darkness or whatever happened. In conclusion, I need software that can record for long period of time, record the screen, have audio of the game and me. I would like it to be free or one time pay fee. I do not want to pay every month. Just one time pay. If it is pay, I would like it to have a free trial so I know it will work for me. Thanks in advance.

If you just want to record and not stream live, then try Screencast-O-Matic. The free version will record up to 15 minutes and the pay version is unlimited, however you pay yearly or every 3 years.

You can select what part of the screen to record or record the full screen. it can record the computer sound and/or narration. Plus it has editing tools, so you can crop, resize, cut out, or combine multiple videos.

Hi! I like Open Broadcast Software (OBS). It's flexible software that I use to record video from emulators. It can also use a window as its video source so you can record video from YouTube or other similar sites if it meets your fancy.

Give it a shot. Maybe its what you're looking for.

Edit: It's free btw. I know you're not looking for paid software.

Ok first off for dark screen run the capture software with run as admin and make sure that you actualy select the corect screen to record.

Yes OBS is very good and supports quicksync(intel iGPU) and nvenc(nvidia cards from 650 upwards) as well as CPU compression, shadowplay is even better and has even lower CPU overhead.

Idk if obs will be good as I heard they can become laggy. Can screen cast o matic do 60fps? Btw I am not live streaming, just recording for you guys that want to know. Never heard of screen cast o matic but heard of obs through a you tube video and they said obs is laggy but other than that is pretty good.

I've never seen anything about FPS, it just records whatever you want on the screen, then you are given options to publish online or save as a video file.

Yes, it saves the raw video to the HDD, then you process it into a video file (I use MP4) and you can do whatever you like with the file. They have several options on how/where to process the raw video.

I have not tried obs so can't comment on it.

OBS can be laggy depending on the settings and your hardware, this is the same for any recording software.
If you record in raw than the strain on the HDD can cause lag,if you record with CPU/h.264 the additional workload on your CPU can make it lag.
Using a (i)GPU to do the recording is generaly the best way to go because it will have the least amount of lag

Best way to know is to try it out. I don't know about obs, but SoC is free but limited to 15 minutes(free version limit). Give it a try and see if it meets your needs and how it performs, then try obs and see which you prefer.

Can't get either to work. How to use obs? I downloaded it. I opened it. I clicked on start recording. Then I said some words like testing 123 to make sure it gets my sound. Then I clicked stop recording. I saw a video on my desktop appear. I clicked on it and it showed a black screen recording and I can't even hear the test words I said. What am I doing wrong? Is there a more straight forward software where I just do the steps I described and it works you know? Getting frustrated here.
