I just bought 2 Cooler Master Jetflo 120 fans for my PC case and they are LOUD! They move I think 68 cfm at 2000rpm but 2000 rpm is stupid loud. Part of the issue is my side intake which one of them is mounted to. It is not vibration it is the grate slots that are causing the fan to whine because of air restriction on the intake. I don't know whether a static pressure fan would be better to solve this problem or if there is no solution.

I read that some people use spacers but moving the fan away from the slots on the side door seems like it would no longer bring cool air from outside, it would pull air from near the inside of the door which is already hot.

The other fan is on the rear exhaust and is not as loud but still too loud to run at 2000 rpm.

I'm looking for a solution that is less than 20db is possible, that moves 65 cfm+ at maybe 1500 rpm max.

Also if anyone can tell me if I should be using airflow or static pressure on the side intake that would be very helpful. I need to return these fans soon to amazon as I am in my 30 day window but want to order the new ones first pretty quick.

Thx

CFM shouldn't really be something you care about. The proof is in the temperatures. If the computer is staying cool and you don't find the noise too loud, then it doesn't matter how much air it is moving.

try a spacer. it can be as thin as a 1/8" piece of foam sheet, or even (temporarily) a small wad of chewed bubble gum. go to the bathroom or kitchen and slice off some sponge to make 4 little spacers, and see if that works.

for fan intake, the "aiflow profile" is pretty open so if you go for too thick of a spacer you should fill in the gap all around. but for a quick noise test, you can ignore it.

i buy cheap fans that are no more than 1600rpm (for the 120mm size) and just use a small fan controller to tweak them. i've liked the Cougar 4-pack Turbine fans. the Fractal fans that came with my Core 1500 case are also pretty good.

Cheap Corsair, Bitfenix, NZXT, Cooler Master, etc fans are what I lean towards for case fans. I am using Corsair SP 120 Performance editions with a resistive fan controller right now. But I have filters and a lot of restrictions, so they make sense.

With the Jetflo, try running them at 7V and see if they move enough air for you. Should be a lot quieter.

My MB has speed controllers for both fans but doesn't tell me the voltage they are running at, it is set up on a level system and RPMs. Right now the rear exhaust is at about 1800rpm and is ok, the side is at about 1200 but still has that noticable whine.

The other issue is I hate to run a fan that has a max RPM of 2000 at less than half of that when the CFM is based on the max. I have no idea how much air (in CFM) it is moving now.

I will try some spacers but filling in the sides to get the air to still come in from the outside sounds like a pain.

I am using the Alpenföhn (EKL)120mm Wing Boost 2 Plus PWM
Volume: max. 18.2 dB (A)
Speed: 500 - 1,500 r / min
Air flow: max. 106 m³ / h
I am using them as Case Fans also for CPU cooling (Scythe ninja 4 cooler) and also for GPU (raijintek morpheus cooler)
at full speed i cant hear that something moving in the case and
it is enough for my Spitzer 20 PC case to run it at room temperature +15 deg ,the CPU + 20 deg. and the GPU is +30 deg.
I have done some modding on the case as the top fans where only 2x80 now they are 2x120
and i am running a OC AMD 870K on 4.5GHz and a OC R9 280X 1200Mh/1700Mhz

I think these are the best on market but not available in my country
