Hey everyone...

Been a lurker for a bit and finally decided to sign up to ask some advice on some things I have planned. It should be said that I've watched and read through countless reviews and am always open to new information on the parts I have in mind. I need a monster multitasking setup......bigtime

I'm NOT looking to go the XEON route if I can help it. I know I'll need a number of things working together to make this build really worthwhile to me as I own my own business and this monster is going to be my primary Work PC.

I own a dance studio so music and AV stuff is huge for me.

I should also say that I don't game...AT ALL.

Budget Range:
up to $10k but I really only want what is absolutely necessary

System Usage from Most to Least Important:

Running multiple Music libraries and also have video / photo rendering going all of the time via photoshop, after effects, or premiere pro from cs6, and lightroom.

streaming and pulling footage from my sony a7s2 in 4k and 1080 at 120fps. Would love to be able to run a virtual android terminal as well.

Parts Not Required:

3x 40" 4k monitors

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
I really like Amazon and am open to Newegg as well. Also should be said that my parents live near a Microcenter and I'f I need to drive the 3 hours to see them as an excuse to go to Microcenter and save some cash I'm ok with that.

Country:
Usa

Parts Preferences:
Considering

5960x with 64gb of ram or 128gb depending on mobo
asus x99 deluxe or msi gaming 7 mobo
corsair h100i water cooler
2x gtx 1080 not in sli
samsung 950 pro for Os and programs
4x samsung 850 evos
6x 6TB WD black hds in raid 10
cosmos ii case

This is my best advice to you. I would think the 2 systems would be your best option and would even consider a i7 6700K for just the music side.
That is a ton of money to spend and try to do everything yourself.
Call these people and tell them what you need the price will be higher but for getting a turn key setup that works for your needs it could be priceless. Tell them exactly what your doing, what your expectations are, drive needs (WD Black drives are not the best option) and that running 2 linked PC's one for the music side and one for the Editing is a option for you. Running all that at one time on a single PC is not really realistic.

Ok just to clear things up, you can get a PC for 10, 20 or even 30K, but in actual usage once you go beyond 2000-3000$, you're just buying useless fancy tech, for instance this is as far as it goes in terms of performance and barely crosses the 3k mark, I repeat you will not be getting any more performance no matter how much you spend, if you decide to spend more you will be getting more performance on paper, but nothing will actually be utilized (I'm also against this build despite being the most performance you can get you do not need that much) :

I see no reason for 3X 4K monitors you can only work in 4K on 1 at a time and about the same for 2X GTX 1080's or Raid 10 you should always have external back up for your work anyhow. I have both internal and external backup for my work.

this is certainly the kind of info I was after as I wasn't sure which route to go. I put the huge limit on there as I wasn't really sure. I have the music and editing broken up over the few different pcs I have at the moment. I have a backup of everything onsite, offsite, and in cloud.

The triple 4k monitors is because 2 of them are for active windows of desk space work and a third for running video for students to watch

I went with SONY SHAKE 55 but you can go with any other music system worth $1000 if you don't have one already. If already have one you can save $1000.

After doing a ton more research, I think the best option for me is to build 2 systems and run them together via Thunderbolt 3.

The editing Rig will be a 5930k based machine with 64gb of ram. I'll run dual gtx 1080s for the cuda cores and speed. For memory I'll probably run a 950 pro for the os and programs and 4x 850 evo ssds as cache, scratch disk, etc.

the music and media rig will be a 6700k based machine with 32gb of ram, 2x 850 evos, and at least 20Tb of storage on HDDs. I'll more than likely also use this as a Plex server.

I've even put a couple of partpicker lists together. 40gb transfer speed should keep things running crazy for a while.

What do you need 2 1080s and a $2,000 CPU for in an audio production rig? :heink: :??:

USAFret.......my music and video data is already regularly backed up onsite, offsite, and via cloud (although the archived video is not on cloud as it is just too big). With the components I'm thinking about having to spend a few hundred extra dollars to get another motherboard or processor to shelf in a pinch isn't a big deal.

g-unit1111.....its not just audio production....its 6+hours of footage a week to scrub and edit....I need cuda cores and horsepower

OK...just checking.
Far too often that is an after thought. Or NeverThought.

So you need the extra horsepower for video editing as well? That makes sense. If you're going to daisy chain rigs together you could do something like this and save some money. These are $3500 a piece, you get hot swap front hard drive bays and you can stack as many of them as you need to to get a video editing and production farm - and you will be able to expand as you go. So two of these plus monitors and you still get to keep that extra $1K in your pocket.

@g-unit1111 he will not only be doing audio production but also be doing a lot of video rendering and multi tasking and for running heavy software side by side without having any problems I think that 10cores will come in handy. GPUs I threw in 2 x 1080 because he wanted them but setting them up in SLI or not is upto him
