Hello good people of TomsHardware!

I have a question about overclocking the A8-7600, because everytime I try to overclock it through the FSB, it never goes beyond 105 MHz. Also the board that I have has no voltage adjustment for anything (except the RAM voltage). I even tried using AMD Overdrive, but even that prevents me from going beyond 105. I've watched videos about overclocking this chip, but none of them seem to help at all. I have disabled all power saving features such as AMDs Cool n' Quiet, Core C6 and set the TDP to 65W, but to no avail.

How will can I overclock this chip? Is it my motherboard? Thanks in advance! Cheers!

System Specs:

AMD A8-7600 3.1GHz - 3.8GHz Turbo Quad Core Kaveri
MSI A68HM - E33 V2 Micro ATX motherboard (with the latest BIOS installed)
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB (2x4GB) 2133MHz (OC)
Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA 3 7200RPM hard drive
Cougar SL500W 80% Power Supply
DeepCool IceEdge 300 Tower Cooler (92mm, with push-pull config)
Emaxx Rebel Mini Tower Case

The memory and HT bus follows the fsb.

First write down what voltage the memory is running at. With it set to 2133, manually set the speed to 1600 but keep the 2133 timings.
Manually set the memory voltage back up to where it was running at before at 2133.

If you can set the HT bus speed down to the next lower one.

Thanks, I'll keep on trying. I'll keep you posted.

Specs:
Mobo: a68hm-e
Procie: AMD a8-7600K w/ APU (512mb) @ 64bit
Memory: 1x4gb 1333mhz ddr3
PSU: Vortex p4 600w
OS: Windows 7
DirectX: 11

I just bought this whole set through online shopping. So, would my system play GTA V? If not what should I upgrade? But, on youtube same specs like mine, he could play at 25 - 50 fps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6lXX0w282k the difference between of us is ram. He has 2x4gb 2133mhz and I'm using 1x4gb 1333mhz only. If I upgrade my ram to 2x4gb 2133mhz, is it possible to play GTA V with same FPS like him?

I set the NB and RAM at the same speeds and kept the timings like you said, also set the RAM voltage at default (1.5v), and also set the TDP at it's max at 65W, but there was no hypertransport link to mess with, the results were still the same, it cannot go beyond 105. Maybe it's the mobo that's limiting the CPU since there are no options for altering the CPU voltage. This is getting frustrating. But thanks for the help, appreciate it.

The board wont post at all or is there a BSOD when booting windows? If it's a BSOD booting windows, it could be the sata controller crashing.
Try setting the hdd to ide compatablity mode instead of sata ACHI mode, with your 500gb hdd it will run the same but this will limit the ops per second on a ssd and newer 4k sector drive.

Try setting turbo core to run 3 or all 4 cores at it's max turbo core speed allowed. (Basically that would use turbo core to overclock) If that fails try disabling turbo core and try to overclock again.

-I dunno, google and lookup how others overclocked with the board you have, there might be a certain thing that needs to be done. Maybe that board is not good for overclocking, no voltage options point towards a board that is not made for overclocking.

No BSOD fortunately. I have all cores set to run at turbo clock (no single options for each core though) so that actually is the overclock for now. Setting the SATA controller to run at IDE garners the same result.

I did do my research and didn't find any solid information about overclocking this CPU with an A68H chipset. I did find the HWBOT site and one of the users was able to do a 4.1GHz OC with an A78 board. I won't give up just yet. Just have to do more research and exploration. Thanks again.

Trying to do a FSB/base clock overclocked on the FM2+ platform is definitely a pain in the ass. With the FM2+ platform, the PCIe, SATA, and USB, which have their own clockrates, are tied to the base clock rate, so when you increase the base clock you also increase these. Since these other devices are finicky, achieving stability beyond increasing your base clock rate beyond 105 is mostly luck of the dice. Anything beyond 110 is rather exceptional.

The most finicky is SATA, and some people manage to gain some extra ticks on the clock rate by switching from AHCI to IDE - but someone already mentioned this, and you already tried it, without must success.
