I noticed that on my wireless logitech keyboard, I cant press more than 3 keys before it stops registering new key presses. So I started looking at keyboards to buy but every place I look they rave about mechanical keys and how they are better for gaming. Now I remember the old mechanical keyboards and how load they were, and the new silicon ones were actually the revolutionary products when they were introduced!
Almost every where I look, the only positive side of mechanical keyboard seems to be how they are durable (and some other stuff about how you can type faster on them, this does not concern me). So for real, are they better? Are they really worth the asking price? They seem to be more expensive generally.

Solution
A mechanical keyboard runs circles around other keyboards.
Non-mechanical keyboards have a dome switch, a little silicon dome with a conductive coating. When you press down you deform the dome and push it into contact with a pad and then a keystroke is registered.
What happens after some use the coatings degrade so key presses become less responsive.

A mechanical keyboard has actual switches built into the key. The switches are all the same on a keyboard so you get a constant feel.
A lot of switches are rated in the millions of presses so mechanical keyboards tend to last.
When looking at mechanical keyboards you will need to check how many grams it takes to press a key. I have a Razer Black Window 2013 and each key press takes 50g of...

There are several different types of switches, just google cherry switches.

Solution
For gaming and other uses......I'll never not use mechanical keyboards. When I made the switch there was absolutely no looking back. It is a major upgrade in my opinion. I use one with Brown switches and love it. If I had to complain...it would be the noise. My gf hates the noise. But the speed and precision are a must if you want to game.

Buy a mechanical keyboard!
