I want to upgrade to the GTX 1070 but I am not sure I am able. Could you all check my specs and see if I'm eligible?

AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

RAM 8.0 GB

Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit

Rosewill 700W power supply.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on what you mean by 'eligable'?

Firstly, as you have 960 then your motherboard has a compatible PCIe slot, and that power supply should handle a 1070 fine (they don't use much power). So from a 'will it work' point of view, yeah it will work fine.

From a performance stand point, the FX 6300 is probably going to hold a 1070 back a bit from it's full potential (what people refer to as a 'bottleneck'), although that will depend on the game, it will certainly still be a lot faster than your 960.

you are better off waiting for the new amd 480

the 1070 is too much for your setup

So in your analysis of my system specs the 1070 would work but the full potential would not be possible unless the CPU is upgraded.

If so, what CPU should I upgrade to? Thanks again!

so with your motherboard a new cpu without a motherboard upgrade is not so great and a 8350 is not much better than a overclocked 6300
what i would do i get a 1070 now and overclock the cpu with a good cooler and later get a new motherboard with a good i5 6500 or 6600k

Agreed, that is sensible to me.
