I am gaming on my PC wiith 4GB RAM, GTX 750 1GB, i3-2120 and 500w PSU (GTAV at 1080p). I am encountering frequent stutters and FPS-Drops. People keep telling me to increase my RAM to solve the problem. Is this true?

Solution
Propably vram and cpu hold you,not sure about ram but it also maybe a stuttering factor.Add another 4gb of ram and lower your resolution-settings.You cant game with 1gb vram on 1080p.

The game should work. Running at MINIMUM.

Here you have a GENERAL specifications about the game:

Minimum specifications:
OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
Memory: 4GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB
DVD Drive

Recommended specifications:
OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB
DVD Drive

It is a DIFICULT question. If you want to play at 1080p with that game you will need powerful hardware (obviously). For example:

For Recommended specifications:

Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs). Your processor: i3-2120 (2 cores), it is worst, the Processor Frequency is similar 3.2 GHz approximately.
Memory: 8GB. You have:4GB RAM, you have less.
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB. Your Video Card:GTX 750 1GB, it is worst, ok your Video Card model is better than GTX 660, but it has 2GB so improve specifications versus to your GTX 750 1GB.

Note that I am talking about RECOMMENDED specifications (I do not think that these specifications are for MAXIMUM specifications), but you want to play with 1080p and I do not know if 1080p (high-definition video) require specifications NEAR to MAXIMUM instead of RECOMMENDED, so if it would be the case, you will need more powerful hardware that for RECOMMENDED specifications.

I am going to propose some questions:

1 - For powerful hardware you need more power so: Is a 500w PSU sufficient?
2 - Is your motherboard ready to upgrade?

You have to think it well, because you can spend A LOT of money.

IN MY OPINION: I am agree with lifespill, like he/she said: "Add another 4gb of ram and lower your resolution-settings.". Note that your video card and processor are lower (but not too much) respect to RECOMMENDED specifications.

Yes, also there is not point just to upgrade to a 2gb gpu,you can run it at 720p-900p medium-high without problem with your gpu.Upgrade later when new gpu would be on the market with better specs and higher memory capacity.
