What graphics card should I upgrade to... and would it work with my build? Or should I scrap my build?

I am not good with computers at all, I bought mine off iBUYPOWER around 4-5 years ago and I am not getting the benchmarks or the performance I know I should be getting with a $700 PC. My specs are...

AMD Radeon 7700 Series (http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/7000/7700)
650 W NZXT HALE82 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116014)
AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad Core Processor, 3600 Mhz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103996)
Not sure how to find my motherboard...
I have 2x 4GB of ram from RIPJAWS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231426&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Memory+%28Desktop+Memory%29-_-N82E16820231426&gclid=Cj0KEQjwhN-6BRCJsePgxru9iIwBEiQAI8rq83A70JNCcvbrMFGSwQ1H6iUAhOHI8eOyW_I8-onzVgsaArQT8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds)

I was considering upgrading to a NVIDIA GeForce 980... but will it work? Or should I just buy parts for a whole new computer and sell off the ones I have?

I ALSO HAVE A WATERCOOLING SYSTEM - AGAIN I DONT KNOW FROM WHERE BUT ITS IN THERE.

Solution
Scrap it and start again IMO. Your current CPU is low performance, and Intel are just so far ahead at the moment.

A 980 will work on your current system, but your CPU will hold back the performance massively.

I would consider getting a new system with a i5 or i7.

Yes the 980 will work. HOWEVER I would wait for the 1070 to be released. IT will be less expensive and more powerful than that card(theoretically).

Download https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download Speccy. Click on motherboard on the summary screen. That will show you your motherboard info.

what specific gpu are you running if you download cpuid you should be able to verify, I would recommend an R9 280x they're good cards that will boost your performance at a reasonable price I feel getting a faster gpu may start to cause bottlenecks regarding your cpu.

Would this i7 be a good one to grab a hold of? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1176280&gclid=Cj0KEQjwhN-6BRCJsePgxru9iIwBEiQAI8rq85-Y5Vd-aVg6MwWVb6XSdL5xLZKbOvQY2ZG7cwh33xoaAhmJ8P8HAQ&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C92051678882%2C&A=details&Q=
It's a little bit expensive but I want a computer that could last me around 5-10 years without much TLC

You can get the last gen i7 which just eats up any game.
Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU:
https://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80646I74790K-i7-4790K-Processor-Cache/dp/B00KPRWAX8/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1465400567&sr=1-1&keywords=i7+4790k

Or get the new Skylake i7 but it hasn't got huge performance increase over the Devil's Canyon i7 4790K
Intel Skylake Quad Core i7-6700K 4.00 GHz:
https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Boxed-I7-6700K-Processor-BX80662I76700K/dp/B012M8LXQW/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1465400590&sr=1-3&keywords=i7+skylake

I would say go for the Haswell one, that my opinion though.
