My lan ports aren't working correctly. When I put the lan drivers off of Asrock's (the manufacturer) website, Internet began to function, but after a restart, I was back to square one. I was able to just reinstall the drivers again and again after each restart for a bit. But now it won't work because it's now saying the drivers are already installed, and I need to remove them first. When I try in Add/remove programs fr ok m the control panel, the computer freezes up before I do a hard reset. What else can I do?

*Edit
the motherboard is an Asrock Extreme 7+
**Edit
Ok, so I managed to get the drivers uninstalled and reinstalled again without freezing up. I got internet working for now, but I fear it will be the same again after the computer is turned off or restarted.

Is your account an admin account? Try right-clicking the driver setup file and select "Run as administrator." Or login as an administrator and install the drivers that way.

One of the little-know "features" of Windows I dislike is that if you aren't admin, in certain situations it'll go ahead and generate files in the C:\Programs or C:\Windows folders, but they'll be local to the user. Other users and admin (how Windows loads drivers) won't see them. In fact you can have two or more versions of the same file with the same name in the same location, and Windows will "see" a different one depending on what user you're reading them...

In fact you can have two or more versions of the same file with the same name in the same location, and Windows will "see" a different one depending on what user you're reading them as. (I had a helluva time debugging config files in my OpenVPN installation until someone told me about this "feature". Had two copies of notepad running, one opened normally, one as admin, and opened the exact same config file on both and they'd show different contents.).

So my guess is you're installing the drivers as a non-admin user, which works as long as you're logged in as that user immediately after the install. But when you reboot, Windows tries to load the drivers as Administrator, and says "hey there's nothing here!" because the driver files are only visible to your account.

I an the only account on the computer, and have administrator privileges. Ill try to specify the install to run as administrator next time I restart the pc, if it doesn't work again.
