I got to thinking about this after watching this video from Jay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAid5G30-WM. At the end of the video he pours isopropyl alcohol all over the GPU. Of course it is kind of trolling and mocking in a way but it got me thinking can you "clean" a PCB component like a video card or mother board with isopropyl alcohol. In another video I was watching (can't remember from who they were cleaning either a motherboard or video card with what looked like brake cleaner spray. I don't know much about brake cleaner so I don't know how safe it would be but isopropyl alcohol is liquid like water but when it hits the air it evaporates almost instantly. It seems like the best of both worlds. I was thinking if you have a large clean bucket you dump a whole bunch of 90% isopropyl alcohol in there then soak the video card or motherboard, maybe agitating some to remove any really dusty gunk stuck on the board. Then pull it out and let it dry. My thinking was that it is safe and there would be very little down t since the alcohol evaporates as soon as it hits the air. I guess my question is would the alcohol do anything to the any type of contacts such as the PCI-e contacts on a GPU PCB or the contacts in memory slots and PCI-e slots on a motherboard?

Solution
Unless you know the chemical nature of the boards coating and can ascertain quite positively that nothing on the board will react negatively to the alcohol then I would suggest you don't use anything but a vacuum.
