Whats Gigabyte's policy on dismantling/replacing thermal compound for their G1 gaming cards?

I have a 980ti, and I suspect there is an issue with the fan sensors that could be fixed simply by disassembling the card and replugging all of the PCB connectors. Unfortunately, to gain access to the screws for the fan shroud I have to remove the heatsink, and that means I would have to reapply the thermal paste (I have some MX-4 for this). Does doing all of this void the warranty? Only reason I'm considering this over returning it to the store is it seems relatively simple and also because it takes a week or two to process the RMA. Anyone know what the official word from Gigabyte is?

Well I haven't actually done it yet, just wanted to see if there was an official position they had on this, since as far as I am aware, other companies like MSI and EVGA are cool with you removing the stock cooler so long as you don't do any damage to it.

I can't tell for sure the Gigabyte support page is complete devoid of an actual warranty terms sheet (never a good sign) other than the super generic 3 years statement.

From a few random comments I can find it sounds like they can deny coverage based on you taking it apart. Do you see any obvious stickers or seals on the unit you'd have to break to remove it?

I'd probably go ahead and ask their support line before you do anything.

I've been in contact with them before, they're fairly useless to me since I live in NZ and they will just give me the standard "return it to where you ordered it for warranty service" line. As for stickers, no, I don't see any on the screws holding the backplate to the PCB besides the serial number sticker. As much as I hate to, I think i will just return to the store (again). Second time I've had to do this. I don't even think they gave me a brand new replacement as I found damage to the protective shrouds on the cable in addition to one of the cables being tightly wedged into the WINDFORCE shroud (and this definitely wasn't done by me).
