On the market for a video card again, would prefer non-used.

So, I'm looking for a new card (I prefer nVidia thank you). I've had my eyes on the 1070 for a little while now, since I've decided it's pretty much the best 1080p card I can buy, or that I will be able to buy, rather. (I'm upgrading from a 650ti, so it'd be a big step-up.) Also, here's my latest build = http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/CtYFf8

Or, the 970/980ti looks like a pretty good deal for me as well, generally speaking. So I think what I've decided is that I'm going to wait for the 1070 to come out, wait to see what people say about the card. If it doesn't have any over-heating problems, and it's not a disappointment, then I might just buy the Founders Edition/Reference Edition right away, or I'll wait a little while for MSI or EVGA to release a good version later on, maybe.

Finally, worse comes to worse and it turns out the 1070 isn't worth it, then I might look into the 970 or 980ti and see what I can find there, since they're still good cards, just now are 'last gen.'

Honestly I'm not really a video card fanatic, so in reality I imagine the 900 card and the 1070 probably would both do fine for me, I just want a good card that's going to give me good performance without giving me trouble with cooling.

(For the record, when I talk about cooling problems, I mean if it requires some really crazy fan setup to keep it cool, or if it is dangerously hot all the time, then I don't want it. If all it does is make the fans a bit loud, but never gets to rates that can damage the card, I don't really care. My comp sits under my desk and I don't really hear the fans.)

(Also, sorry that this is very unorganized. I don't have any specific GFX cards that I'm looking at, only the model names and such...)

I think the 1070 will likely be a good choice for you. I would suggest you get it instead of a 9xx series card because of all the extras that they've added, other than just raw performance. This includes its ability to take still photos in games at angles other than where the camera is pointing, and the recent enhancements they've made towards VR.

But if you want to truly save on the budget, get an AMD Rx 480, it's expected to retail for $199. Yes, I know you said you preferred NVidia. I think the 480 will be more budget friendly, if budget is a concern of yours.

Yeah, the 1070 will be a GREAT step up from my 650ti that I still have. I updated my post with my current PCPartsPicker build (It is up to date, and I just recently recieved the case and one of the 1tb harddrives [literally just today].)

As for the 900 series, honestly that might be what I go for, I've been hearing that the 1070 runs at 80c, which.. That's hot, isn't it?

To answer you about the AMD, thank you for suggesting it to me but not shoving it in my face. I'm so tired of fanboys. I can understand that NVIDIA cards may be over priced a bit, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth the money... Anyways, I've got nothing against AMD, just for now, with my limited knowledge in the graphics card market, I think I'll stick with what I know. Also, budget isn't really a huge concern... (but everyone likes saving money...)
TL;DR for that, I'll keep it in mind. :)

I'm basically just looking for advice on a new card to pick for a step-up from my 650ti. Something like the 980ti, 970 or if the 1070 founders edition is worth it, then a 1070.

I'm just worried that it's going to run too hot, be hard to control, then get damaged from heat wear.

Setting up a custom fan curve solves the 80 Celsius ahem... Problem. I really don't see it as a problem. The Founders Edition coolers aren't meant for extreme overclocking. They're only meant to be just enough to keep the card from getting dangerously hot. Although you can get a program like Afterburner and set up a more aggressive fan curve, trading the fan making more noise for the card running cooler.

Weber, honestly the fan noise doesn't bother me much. My computer goes under my desk and I rarely hear it when I'm listening to music with my headphones on.

So the Founders edition will be worth the money then? Rather than waiting for custom coolers? I'll be okay with waiting a few days to be sure that the founders edition cards don't have manufacturing issues, then I'll likely order mine.

My new case will be good for air flow I think, it has two intake fans at the front and one exhaust, then the PSU fan and my CPU cooler fan.

Thanks for your advice so far, looking forward to hearing more!

Well, your fan setup could be a little more aggressive, but that should be enough airflow if the CPU and GPU are going to be the only high-heat producing components in your build. If you intend to put in a second card, I recommend either adding more fans or getting a new chassis with more fan mounts and then filling all of them.

When I did my overclocks on my R9 280X's as well as my FX-8350, I had my 8350 going to a 140mm rad on the rear of the case. But for airflow, I had a 200mm on the front, a 140mm on the side panel and two 120mm fans on the bottom, all as intake. For exhaust I had two 200mm fans on the top as well as the radiator on the rear. I never had cooling problems. But, a piece of advice is that cases only provide enough fans to get minimum airflow. Your case likely has more fan mounts that weren't being used when you bought it. If you ever have cooling issues, consider occupying those extra fan mounts.

Yeah, my case has lots of fan mounts, but one of the issues is that my MOBO only has 2 3-pin slots and one 4-pin slot for system fans, but I'm guessing there's a way to extend that somehow... also, usually my PC is pretty darn cool in my old case so maybe I won't have a huge problem... or maybe the new card will make it extra toasty, only time will tell! I'll definitely look into something I can do to make it more habitable for the parts though, if I do have troubles with that!
