Hello,

I recently upgraded my computer to an R9 290 Graphics card. Ever since, I get an error message that tells me the drivers have crashed and have recovered. It happens every day and is not indicative of any single program. I have the most recent drivers and am not sure what to do to make this stop.

Thanks

System Specs

Core i7 4770
1250W Power Supply (Overkill I know)
16 GB of DDR3 RAM
R9 290 Graphics Card

use MSI Afterburner to log the GPU temperature and clock rates for the cor and the VRam, also the fan speeds.

The AMD Crimson drivers, after the 15.11.1 Beta Catalyst driver, always set the fan speeds locked to 20% right after you install a new version of the drivers. This can cause the GPU to hit 95 deg C in no time and then can either throttle the Core or VRam clocks below the standard 947MHz and 1250 MHz, or it'll crash.

In the MSI LOG if you see the GPU temp go to 95C, and the clocks decrease below 947 MHz and 1250 MHz, and the fan is stuck at 20%, well then there is the problem. Increase the fan speeds in the AMD driver to allow 100% and re-run the test to see if the GPU clocks stay at 947 and 1250 without crashing.

I have MSI installed and am running the fans at around 40% with no load. It is set to automatically adjust them because I too was having trouble with the fans getting stuck at 20%.
