First off i would like to apologize because im sure this thread is in the wrong place really new to the forum thing but cant seem to find my answer anywhere on toms hardware or the internet for that matter but here we go.

I have a RT-AC68P router and am trying to host a private server for a couple of my buddies to play a game called rust on. i have port-forwarded before for a server like minecraft and had success but i can NOT get my port to open no matter how hard i try. no matter what i do the port is always "filtered" so that means there is a firewall blocking me somewhere in the set up. i turned off my firewall on my pc and the firewall to the router and set the port. restarted the router. i even tried using a completely different router. but i can not get the port to open. i cant think of any other point in the set up that there could be a firewall and im just so done with this.

again soooo sorry if the thread is already been done somewhere or im in the wrong place im not great at this and did my best.

Aha, I read what I wanted to read no what you typed. Change your router from bridge/media mode to wireless router mode.

This may resolve the issue. Your internal network can be DHCP, and you probably can not set your wan to static unless you pay for a static IP. The onlt thing you need to make sure of is that your server is static, either entered in the TCP/IP settings or a DHCP reservation in your router. If you set it manually make sure that it is outside the DHCP pool or you may end up with a conflict.

Can you plug your computer intot the modem, run an ipconfig /release and /renew and check for open ports on http://canyouseeme.org/ to rule out the modem all together? From what I see it should be open but I an seeing conflicting reports on this modem.

i ran the ipconfig release and renew after pluging into just the modem and ran a check on ports 21 22 23 25 53 80 110 143 and there all not open. side not from what i can see on http://www.ipfingerprints.com/ when i do have the router involved there coming back as "filtered" not sure if that helps but under that site with JUST the modem there closed completely. if it helps im trying to host the server with port 28015

The port forward check came back as closed while i was attached to JUST THE MODEM ill plug back in the router and check the ports off the router again tho and try and test the server connection. but i thought you meant to check if the ports were open with being just connected to the modem

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Connected to just the modem and see if the port was closed. If it's closed your problem lies with the modem not the router.

You may need o spend some time checking configs on the modem to make sure all ports are open.

how do i go about configing the modem? i know i can config the router from going to 192.168.1.1 on my browser. also would it maybe be that my network is not static? when i change the router to static it just make the internet not work at all
