Windows XP Keeps Rebooting at Desktop...

My dad's PC is running xp business pro (I think). The PC overnight went to a blue screen of death and tries to do a chckdsk every single time it boots. Sometimes it works, sometimes it stalls out. Regardless (even if I skip it), when his desktop FINALLY comes up, it will only stay up a minute and then the computer reboots. I have tried booting into safe mode, 95% of the time it gets stuck at the mup.sys and never loads.

Does anyone know what might have happened overnight? I HAD all the windows updates disabled last I checked, but windows is so dirty, so who knows if it tried to sneak one in and corrupted overnight.

Oddly, even when it boots to safe mode, it seems to do the reboot thing if enough time passes???

Update: I also forgot that I tried to run Ubuntu from a thumbdrive. It failed to load b/c of a "Kernel Panic".

Thank you so much for any help!

A new development. The PC after attempting to boot into safe mode restarted after failing to get past the MUP.SYS. It will now only go the XP Logo screen with the tiny loading bar for 2-3 seconds before rebooting. It gives me options to boot into safe mode, etc, last known good config, and normal. I have tried all options and all result in the same reboot loop at the Logo. I have since tried reseating everything inside. No change. Any clues???
