Hey guys,
First off, I want to tell you my specs (I got all of this and monitor for $250):
CPU: i5-2500k
Case: ATX Thermaltake Case
GPU: ASUS GTX 750 Ti 2GB
HDD: 1TB WD
Motherboard: P8-Z68- LX
RAM: Kingston 8GB
PSU: PC Power and Cooling 750W

My first question is:
Can I upgrade my CPU to an Intel i5-6600k or i5-4690k without changing my motherboard (It's the same socket but different chipset)?

2nd:
Is it worth it to change to an i5-6600k or i5-4690k?

3rd:
If I upgrade my GPU to a 960 (keeping same CPU), will my card bottleneck with the CPU?

Thanks a lot for your help. :D

Solution
the GPU will bottleneck the CPU, and seeing as it is the i5 2500k, which is an amazing overclocker, I would just get a good CPU cooler and overclock the CPU if the CPU isn't fast enough, to save a lot of money
First: NO! Different socket and chipset. You need new motherboards for that.
Second: Maybe. What's it used for and how much is it overclocked?
Third: No straight answer. That GPU is decently matched to the CPU. In some situations, the limit will be with the CPU, and in others it will be with the GPU. Depends on what you do, and at what resolution and GPU settings you use.

Your system is decent and no you can't use a 4690k or 6600k on your motherboard, you'd need different motherboards to use those CPU. 2500k is still a decent CPU. It's an unlocked CPU so you could overclock it and maximise your performance gains. Most people can use that CPU at speeds like 4.5GHZ but an aftermarket CPU cooler is a must-have to overclock it. A GTX 960 would be a nice pair with your CPU.

I don't know what type of games you'd like to play and at what monitor resolution you play but if i were you, i'd do with 3 upgrades/tweaks first:

- Buy a CPU cooler (CM hyper 212 evo OR Cryorig H7) plus a good CPU thermal paste like Arctic Silver (pretty cheap but helps reduce CPU temps). Apply and change these (could get support from a professional)

- Buy your desired GPU

- Overclock your CPU

- and happy gaming

The i5-2500K is a great gaming cpu, and the newest ones are not much faster. In many cases a OC i5-2500K beats Ivybridge and the FX.

The 960 is faster than the 750Ti but not double. Also you can't sli a 960.
I would try and find a used 680,770,780,780ti,titan,ect. or new 970. You can use your 750ti as a physx card.

Option#2 would be to sell your 750ti and use that towards a pair of amd cards, or a single faster one.

It's a crossfire board with a x16 and X4 slot. AMD crossfire is your best choice for this board+cpu combo.
I would shop for a used pair of amd cards. Like a pair of HD-7950's, 7970's, R280's, R380's. ect.
Or a single larger one that is easy to find later on if you want to run crossfire. A R380 is common, or the R390, 390x.
