Available memory is lower than expected

I noticed that my memory usage was quite high when I wasn't running any games, normally around 50%. I thought this was odd given I have 8 Gigs of Ram, so recently I went to check my memory out and I came across this.

So does anyone know what the deal is? I just finished re-arranging the memory sticks into different slots and I noticed no difference.

Sassassin :

I think what is causing this is your integrated gpu borrows some from the system ram.

That would explain why installed physical memory is higher than 'total physical memory' (which is the installed memory minus the video ram).

If your machine is a desktop, you can get around this by installing a discreet graphics card, which will have it's own dedicated memory. If it's a laptop, best option would be increase the ram to 16gb (ram is quite cheap these days).
