Hi, so like the title says, I'm wondering if AMD builds are still something worth building for decent gaming experiences.

One of my friend is considering getting a PC but he's short on cash. I would like to build something that is around 500-700CAD $ for gaming (mostly shooters like COD, rainbow six and battlefield.)

If anyone has any input or build to share, plz do and thank you.

Viable as in they are fast enough.

Recommended? Not really - I have a 6350-based build at the moment, it's 18 months oldish. It's a perfectly good machine, but you can build faster, cheaper, quieter and cooler with Intel at the moment.

If you can't wait for the new AMD CPU's and want to build now, Intel is the only gaming option in town unless you can find some great deals.

CPU is not so much the deciding factor on a gaming system. If you want to game invest in a good VGA and will be the key component that will decide if you have a good smooth gaming experience or a bad one. Besides, the AMD 6 core CPUs you can find bellow 100$ and you can game anything with those with the right VGA.

From scratch or just the tower?

edit: Here's my recommendation for entry level gaming, rig only.

Get the 460 VGA card from AMD which should be 150$ and offer decent performance.
Also I added a Hybrid HDD, which will help your OS and programs load much faster.

Actually I already have the i3 6100. Bought it for another build but ended up not needing it. I also have a pretty decent monitor that I could add to that.
In any case, it seems like it's perfectly doable to keep under 700$

Is the i3 6100 any good at gaming? I mean, I could never use that in my own pc but will it bottleneck?
