Is this a good choice untill better CPU's come around?

Hi, back in 2013 I build my PC based on a 4770K CPU. Through all these years the only changes I've done have been on my GPU's. Currently I use 2 GTX980ti and will upgrade to 2 GTX1080ti.

I've been wanting to build a new PC and thought this was a good time to do it but on the Broadwell E side of things, as the main uses of my PC are gaming and light working stuff (MS Word, email and browsing the internet) I've read some reviews stating the there is no much gain in terms of speed with these CPU's and that the X99 is a platform that probably will go out of the market next year.

On the other side, I've read that the upcoming 7700K cpu is not that great in comparison with the 6700K cpu and that the platform both cpu's uses is also subject to go out of the market next year.

Is that all is true, I would rather wait for next year, probably Q4 next year so the really new CPU and platform are to become available and build a PC with "new" technology that should keep fresh longer.

The "solution" I was thinking about until next year as I really want to make some changes (though I now is not entirely necessary) is, as I have Asus Z87 Deluxe 1150 Intel Z87 motherboard, is to upgrade my 4770K to a 4790K and overclock it as much as possible.

That should give me more performance that I have right now so I could see some minor changes but changes after all.

Do you think is a good solution to wait for next year or if I go now and build a Broadwell E X99 based system or a Kaby Lake based system I should not see much of a difference in upcoming new CPU and platforms next year? In other words, is it a good choice to wait another year?

Thank you very much for your answers!

Why do you want a new PC or CPU? Is your current one not performing as you'd like?

4790K might net you 1-200mhz over your 4770K, which is about 2-4%. CPUs are advancing at about 5% performance per year. I wouldn't expect there to be much that will provide a noticeable improvement for another 3-4 years.

In your usage scenario tehre is no point whatsoever in going with E platform unless you want to do 3+ way SLI/CF. Seeing as Nvidia is not recommending more than 2 way sli...
Also, if you upgrade to a 6700k you will see no perceptible gains whatsoever. You should wait for AMD to bring out Zen as that might force intel to bring noticeable performance gains in their next platforms.
For now, if you have money burning your pocket, i suggest you take a look at these twin monitors, as they are considered teh best gaming monitors ever made. And for good reason: 34" 21:9 1440p 100Hz IPS with G-sync. You really should be rocking G-Sync if you aren't already.
