i7 3770k vs i5 4460 for GAMING???

It's not clear if you already OWN the i7-3770K or not.

The i7-3770K however beats the i5-4460 hands down, and there aren't any really important motherboard changes that Haswell offers. Unless you need M.2 SSD or something.

The i7-3770K even at stock is clocked high enough that the architectural improvements of the Haswell CPU can't beat it, and if you include hyperthreading support, especially for demanding DX12 games (some will still use all the processing the i7-3770K has or close to it) you are farther ahead still.

If we assume the i5-4460 about 10% faster at same frequency due to the architecture then ROUGHLY speaking the i7-3770K is this much faster:

stock
3.9/3.4/1.1 = 4%

overclocked
4.4/3.4/1.1 = 12%

overclocked + HT
4.4/3.4/1.1*1.2 = 34%

The last one is what you can likely expect to get in a program like HANDBRAKE, or a really demanding game that can take advantage of the CPU.

However, you should also look at the motherboard and CPU cooler costs. A Cryorig H7 isn't very expensive though, and the older motherboard may cost the same for a "Z" series that does good overclocking so I can't say how that compares.

Hopefully this gives a rough indication, but again it varies by the game.

Not sure if these are NEW parts either, but a Warranty is worth a lot to me as I've had to return motherboards in the past.
