A couple of months ago the 8-pin connection from my PSU to my mobo melted. (top half of connection). I bought a new PSU and after clearing out any debri in the 8-pin slot on the mobo (which looked for all intense and purposes fine) i plugged in the mobo and the computer generally worked fine. However, the temperatures on my CPU started reading pretty high (85celsius while playing video games) , even for one that is high end. The computer would shut off and be a huge pain to restart, even after cooling down to room temp (which is cold). After hitting the windows loading screen it would shut down about 4-5 times until it would finally pass the windows loading screen and properly boot up. Sometimes it worked perfectly for days, then would start increasing temp and shut off. sometimes it was hot right from the start and then shut off soon after. Then all of a sudden it was impossible to turn on.

Bought a new MOBO assuming the original damage was causing voltage issues with the cpu. Now, with the new MOBO, the bastard wont turn on at all. All fans on the system seem to work fine, including PSU. Not sure what the issue is. Im thinking i fried my cpu, but if any1 has any ideas let me know!

cpu - AMD FX9590
Motherboard - MSI 970 Gaming
GPU - AMD hd Radeon 6950 Twin Frzn
PSU - Corsair CS750M

Solution
Sure. It could kill the power regulators on the board.

The FX9590 is a BAD CPU. NOBODY should buy it because nobody does the appropriate research to see if their system is compatible.

If thats true than the guy at the store is a total prick. Now just to make sure. would this cause the computer to fail instantly? and turn off almost instantly

There are a number of people like you that are coming to this board with similar stories. USE the compatibility list the vendor provides. If you are lucky the FX9590 didn't kill your board. Did you purchase this as an upgrade from a FX4100 or was this a new system? If it was purchased together then you may be able to get a refund since they sold you known incompatible parts.

i purchased it separately. Been messing with this rig for a long time now. What confuses me is that the FX9590 has been "working" for quite some time now. Only recently has it been the probably cause of a lot of these problems. My previous mobo was a gigabyte 970A, and i cant see how that mobo would allow my computer to not only turn on but run well for quite some time, where as the MSI970 gaming mobo is failing in a heartbeat. Ill take it apart and check for any dmg, but it is most definitly this clown behind the desk's fault (besides my own)

Definitly explains why the original 8pin connector on my PSU fried. Think ill downgrade the cpu instead of continuously upgrading other components. especially if compatibility issues are such an over recurring problem
