So I downloaded the shaders mod to do an FPS test on it etc. I got Unbelievable shaders started it up and the game played at 0 FPS.
I get their lite version of shaders and I get 100+ FPS on same settings (lowest possible).
Strangly when i'm not near water or certain areas (I think includes water underground) with unbelievable shaders ultra I get 30 FPS.
I went into the shader pack and deleted the terrain files which fixed the FPS problem but when I turn around there are many parts of the game that just go black so that is a no go.

Any ideas? Optifine makes no difference.

The $230($240?) 480 version has 8GB of VRAM, but we don't know anything about the card (not much, anyways) and how it'd perform, sounds like they're trying to optimize it more for VR, so I don't know how it'd fare against the 390.

Sorry for late reply. Been busy.
i5 4690k
8 GB 1866 MHz RAM
GTX 285 (In this case. Usually GTX 750 Ti)
EVGA 500w 80+ PSU
Also Windows 10.

I'll quickly update my signature to say the RAM I have.

Sonic's Shaders aren't optimized very well (not too bad though), and it doesn't help that there's a bottleneck (Minecraft especially, since it's CPU intensive). If you upgrade your GPU to something like a GTX 970 or the cheaper and "better" RX 480, you should see a big increase in performance. Currently, in fullscreen @ 1080p, I'm only able to get 35 fps on average @ everything set to Ultra using Sonic's Unreal Shaders (ultra).

a 390 is the best upgrade as some shader packs really will use the vram
