make sure that the Flash drive is bootable first:
in windows go to:
1-Start - CMD
2-diskpart
3-list disk
4-select the flash drive - select disk #
5-type clean
6-type create partition primary
7-type select partition 1
8-type active
9-type format fs=ntfs quick
then copy the image in the flash drive and try again.

what do you mean by no luck? do you have problems in those steps?
if so you can use user friendly software like this one to get the job done:
https://rufus.akeo.ie/
and then copy the image files into the flash , then restart and boot on the flash and install the windows.

if it also shows up in the boot menu , i think there's a file missing in the installation disk , can you take a screen shot?
you can also check the Autorun.inf and Setup.ini files on the windows image and see if there's any name of optical drive or a optical drive latter that you don't have and if so change it to the flash drive latter.

why did you select upgrade?
if you want to do a clean install you have to select Custom (advanced ) and then select the C:\ drive then format it
if you have any information (downloads - documents not windows files) on the C drive copy them to another place then do with Custom option.

so if you don't have any information then Select the Custom option and then select C drive
see if this helps:
http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Windows-7-(Beginners)
just be careful to make a copy of your documents in C drive (including desktop and everything that leads to C drive)

I downloaded rufus and then used the gigabyte windows image tool. windows image tool fails. when I try to install, the system will restart, and then blue screen. what should i do?

I called gigabyte support, and they were not at all helpful. The Tech Support agent was rude, cut me off multiple times while I was trying to explain my problem. Then he gave me misinformation about the windows install tool that is directly contradicted on their support page. I have to assume that many people are using windows 7 on these machines. how can I get it to work? Please Help Me Out. Thanks

Here is the message i get?

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.
