Hi, so basically 2 days ago I upgraded my cpu to an AMD 8 core 4.0Ghz and ever since then the temperature of my graphics card, the GTX 750Ti 2GB has been sky high in the 68-72C range( it hasn't been like this before) and my PC began turning itself off. I tried replacing the cpu cooler to see if it made any difference but it was negligible, so I'm in a game and I hear a loud bang and see a spark of light come from my computer. It now won't turn on so I'm assuming the power supply is dead but I fail to see why it would happen. Did it get too hot or something? Was my power supply possibly not supplying. Enough power to run the entirety of the computers components? Could a lack of power be the reason why it everything got so hot and which fried the psu? I'd like to hear what people think.

Thanks

1. Please provide some system specs please. CPU? Mobo? PSU? Cooler and case?
The CPU up and mobo are critical
2. Something is definitely dead. Your mobo might have burned out. The vrms might not take the octacore as weLl or might have overloaded the PSU. I don't know since I don't have specs. And when you installed that cooler, did you apply thermal paste, secure the cooler, and made sure the piece of plastic on the bottom of the HSF is removed? It might have gotten too hot and died.
3. Thr increased GPU temps are probably due to the extra heat that the newer CPU puts out. Those temps aren't to worry really though. It see,s like you got an AMD CPU. Can t be sure either. No specs.
4. Last of all, read my signature. If it fits the description, well you know. There s a mother one. A flash and bang is great in a game, but not inside your computer. Sorry forgot who it was from. But I credit them to this quote.

You could have not installed the CPU properly, or caused a short in the system with some cable or connection to the case from the motherboard, the PSU could be cheap and not good enough to run the new CPU. If you have a lower end motherboard and went to the 8 core FX models that can cause issues also.

Edit.. Just noticed this thread is from June, someone dug up an old thread.
