Bought a acer laptop with Windows 8.1 home and Ive been trying to upgrade it to Windows 8.1 professional to be able to get on to my work network however I've been having difficulties with the installation which results in the upgrade failing can anyone help?

Solution
That's my view of it. By wiping the drive, I mean cleaning it up to receive a new installation. Do you have a DVD with 8.1 Professional on it?

You will need to buy one because the licence you have now won't transfer to another version. Install it - it will clean the disk as it goes on with the installation - and before July 29th you'll be able to go one step further and upgrade to Windows 10.

It's a lot of work, not to mention money. What are the requirements of the works network that expects you to have the high-end version of Windows?
It's not possible to upgrade a cheaper version of a Windows product to a more expensive one. It's a matter of buying the dearer one and installing it on to a formatted hard disk. You need either to start by saving all your data off the hard disk or keep the data and the disk and buy another for the new installation.

You could get a Solid State Drive to speed up the new installaiton, which will be faster and make better use of RAM if it's 64 bit.

Saga Lout you have to excuse me I'm a novice. I mean I get the gist of what you're saying but can you break it down a bit more. For e.g are you saying I have to wipe the drive and then use the windows 8.1 professional Cd to install the new software for it to work correctly?
