Can a USB IDE Hard Drive enclosure be converted to SATA?

I have a Maxtor One Touch with an 80GB IDE hard drive in it but I have a 500GB SATA hard drive and was wondering if I could buy this IDE to SATA adapter (See amazon link/photos) to put my 500GB SATA hard drive in and use it as an external drive exactly as it works now with the IDE drive. I don't know too much about hard drives, so I needed to ask and make sure this works. If it does i'm hoping ill be lucky enough to be able to fit the SATA hard drive with the adapter in the enclosure.

Can you fit this adapter inside? Click on the one on right or the middle one. You would need to provide some adapation/connection to their power.

They are bidirectional, so they will work IDE->SATA (some other adapters work only in one direction, usually opposite of what you need).

On the other hand... a new enclosure is as cheap and more performant. I have a similar Maxtor enclosure, upgraded at some point with the biggest IDE HDD that I could find on eBay (Seagate 750GB) and... now it sits unused.

Okay, I have an iMac so I would need a USB one. I think the adapter you sent would work fine except for where would I get the power for the drive? I see the data plug but no power. Would this work one on eBay work? Since it has a power plug for IDE and then an IDE to SATA power adapter-

That one will be usable for any normal disk/CD or DVD type of drive. SATA 3.5", 2.5" (laptop) HDDs, PATA/IDE 3.5", 2.5" (laptop) HDDs and SATA and PATA/IDE CD and DVD drives.
Enclosures typically can use only one of those drives, ones that are made for. Enclosures with only USB connections without power can only work with 2.5" HDDs.
