My computer is a HP pavilion model h8-1010
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02838702

Right now it's running off the AMD radeon that it comes with and I cant seem to get the new graphics card to work. I've tried downloading the drivers already and then putting the new card in but all i get when i restart the computer is a frozen/black screen. My computer currently has legacy mode BIOS mode on so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I cant seem to find the BIOS settings to disable this no matter what I press at the startup screen F1-F12,DEL, etc. and even if i get to the same screen as some other websites have depicted, I dont see any BIOS settings shown. I used a SATA to 6 pin PCI connecting from my power supply to the graphics card itself, but im not sure if this is enough power. The only other thing I can think of is that it's simply not compatible with the card. Now that I look at it. The total wattage of my PC is 300 Watts whereas the recommended for the graphics card is 350 or more. I think the problem is either my weak power supply or it's a faulty card. Does a lack of power result in a black/frozen screen? and if this is the problem, what power supply should I get? Would a 600W Power supply run differently than a 700 or 750? thanks

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2492424/laymans-simple-guide-solving-graphics-card-issues.html

Are you trying to run it with both graphics cards in there? If so, we don't want both of them in there. We need to get a picture to get the ball rolling.
After you get a picture get into Windows and run the display driver uninstaller found at:
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
It might be set to display out of a PCI display adapter and the integrated gpu won't work if you just remove the cards, so you might have to try your setup as it was when you last booted it successfully to get that picture we all desire.

So TLDR: check out the guide i linked above, I think your PSU might be able to support that GPU. If you have only the new GPU in there, you get to see Bios after post and then the black screen stuff happens you might try to boot in safe mode if there are driver issues, solved by using the DDU.
More info is needed before I can tell you that you need a better power supply, but there are great ones on the ninja cheap. EVGA B2 series I suggest, 400w if you're not going to upgrade in the future.
