I got a new graphics card for my i5 Dx4860 Gateway, Windows 10. After having trouble installing my graphics card, I decided to call EVGA tech support. They told me that i needed to update my bios in order to get past my blank screen. It used to be windows 7 until i upgraded it to windows 10. and in the driver download of Gateway it give me two download options: 1. Gateway BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades). and 2. Gateway BIOS (for device with Ivy Bridge & USB 3.0 Supported). I have no idea which one to download.
I think this will help understand.

I have read that its really risky, and only do it if i cant boot. So here i am!

Hey, I downloaded the windows 8. I followed all the read me steps and when i ran the batch file as an administrator the command page came up for like two seconds and then nothing happened.(I stayed at the desktop) I gave it like 20 minutes to see if it would reboot but nothing. It also says do not reboot system directly. If its not rebooting by itself did it not work? should i try and download the other one? give it more time? retry the download? or reboot manually? thanks.

Well, I found out that my pc does not open my bios menu from in the settings or from the boot up. i guess thats part of the problem it didnt work. ive tried all the ways to try and get into the bios but i cant. and i even downloaded the same bios update twice (i know really risky). but my pc just doesnt want or let me get into my bios menu. I guess downgrading to windows 7 will help? idk

With the old graphics card installed (so that you can see the monitor):

To access your BIOS on a Windows 10 PC, you must follow these steps.

Navigate to settings. ...
Select Update & security.
Select Recovery from the left menu.
Click Restart Now under Advanced startup. ...
Click Troubleshoot.
Click Advanced options.
Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
Click Restart.

Maybe from the UEFI you can install the new BIOS.

I will try this ASAP but right now i am busy. Thank you for showing me that post. from what im reading its just windows 10 and 8. Since i upgraded i can probably downgrade back to windows 7 and try it from there dont you think? since Windows 10 has all this stuff. I will try what the page said. I will keep you updated :)

Ok this is the update. ( dont want to bump posts.) So i downgraded to winodws 7 it finally let me get into bios. from the boot. Now since im windows 7 i downloaded the windows 7 bios update thing. but same thing happend my pc just stayed in the desktop. ive given it 30 minutes. i also read that you can change the pcie to primary instead of on board. but my bios has no option for that or i cant find it. Im a noob :/
