Hello Folks

I would like to as a question about the storage capacity of a HP ProLiant ML330 G6. I'm not using Hot Swap and I just want to connect the 4 HDD directly into the SATA Ports on the System Board. it's just to store videos, music and pictures for the family so 3 of the drives will be data only drives and one drive will be for the OS which is Ubuntu Server (latest stable version).

Here is a link to the Specifications Data Sheet for the server http://content.etilize.com/Manufacturer-Brochure/1019328569.pdf

What can the MAX Capacity be for the OS HDD?
What can the MAX Capacity be for the 3 Data HDD?
Secondly am I restricted to a specific Hard Drive Interface for this server? Can I use a SATA-600 instead of a SATA-300 HDD if I can't get the storage capacity on a SATA-300?

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated.

Give it a try because the RAID controller should support large drives, but all info that I could find indicates drives connected to the motherboard controller are limited to 2.2 TB. Larger drives can be used, but you can't create a single partition. Try the 8 TB drive and let us know if you can create a single partition.

Thanks for the reply but why do you say 2TB? I won't decide on a backup option until I know what size disks I can use for data storage. With RAID I'm limited to 2TB drives which according to the specs limits me to 16TB. I might well be limited to 2TB for the OS drive when not using RAID but maybe the Data Storage drives can be more. I ordered a 8TD Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD so when it arrives I'll know better.

Thanks
