Dear tom's Hardware,

Thanks for reading my Post :)
I've spent the past 17 consecutive hours trying to fix this issue and I'm at my wit's end.

I have a Netgear CG3100D-2 Modem and recently purchased a Wireless-N Wifi Repeater.
Please see this model: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wireless-N-Wifi-Repeater-802-11n-b-g-Network-Wi-Fi-Routers-300Mbps-Range-Expander-Signal/32520830652.html

We needed a little extra coverage until we set up a new router. I set it up and it's working 95%. Getting great speeds.

There is one issue however. Everytime I log into the router and assign an IP for my mac In the DHCP Lease, it will work and assign it. But upon the repeater or net dropping out, the lease is deleted and cleared, and a new IP is assigned.
The lease is not remembered at all.
This happens for any device going through the repeater but they don't require static ips in the house. Mainly this Mac due to a number of port forwards required for my software.

A few things to note:
-DHCP is disabled on repeater
-Manually assigning IP with/without DHCP in mac network settings leads to no internet connection but connection to router and repeater pages. DHCP Client ID does nothing for me.
-Have played with Seperate and identical SSIDs for repeater
-Have rebooted devices
-Have run the set-up multiple times
-Have re-assigned leases multiple times in the hope they would stick.
-Tested many MAC addresses and not just my mac.

I don't know if it is a repeater issue or a DHCP lease issue with the router.

Some help would be amazing!

Thank you very much for your help.

I'm assuming
1. you have set the repeater up in repeating mode and not ap mode(DHCP should not be an option in repeater mode as repeaters don't assign ip address)
2.your reserving an ip by using the "DHCP reservation Lease" info in the lan setup screen by entering the MAC address then the permanent IP address.

just wondering have you tried assigning the repeater an static ip to this list also(not the same as the mac).

Dear Maxwellmelon,

Thanks for your reply!

1.Yeah that's correct, it also has AP mode and DHCP is disabled. Just running in repeater mode.
2. Yeah that's how I am reserving.

I'm giving that a try now as I'm writing this. It has been set and I'll see if my own IP jumps around now.
A static has been assigned for the repeater's MAC.

UPDATE: The assigning of a static ip to the repeater's mac did nothing unfortunately :(
I don't know why but the repeater has the power to delete a lease and assign a new ip...

Another Update:
I have assigned a static IP to my computer with its MAC address, the lease info list shows that IP linked to the MAC address of the repeater and not the computer's MAC. Does that mean it does some wacky conversion?

does it work right? because if it does not I'm out of ideas.

Yes it could be having a wacky way of passing info though. repeaters are not that standardized type of hardware in how they have to work.

Thanks for your reply!

Nope not working. I can enter a static IP , only then for the repeater to overwrite it if it drops out.
So for a time I have the static IP i want, then BAM gone...

When it assigns me a random IP the lease info shows it as static. I don't know what kind of communication it is doing with my router but it is friggin annoying. It almost is acting in AP mode even though it is in repeater mode.

I'm really unsure what do to and am so close to turning it off and putting it away. But I need better coverage for the time being. *sigh*
