hey guys my motherboard works perfectly fine and there was no smell or noise. It was just a little spark when i tried to turn off the motherboard by shorting it again (could have just turned off the power supply). i used a paper clip which could have caused me to accidently touch the speaker negative. Should i be worried? Should i return it and buy another one? Thanks for helping me out!

Motherboard: MSI H170 Gaming m3
CPU: i5 6500
PSU: CX500

Do your self a favor and find an old switch to connect in the future. You can damage the board by shoring the power on to speaker connector or another connector in some cases. If the board is still working, you should be good.

This board was shorted to the speaker connector and burned the trace out to the speaker(no more beep codes). The board still works to this day. Even with YEARS of starting systems this way, one slip and bam, damage done(glad this was my own system[and it was only to test something] or it would have been costly).
