Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 announced, is the price a bit high?

Solution
Yes I do, considering the price of a 970. But it is about as powerful as a 980 ti so there's that. Also this is the asus ROG card, usually they only put the ROG name on the high end asus stuff, they might come out with just a strix model or similar for cheaper in the future.

At $430 or $450, the new GTX1070 seems like a deal.
It is the equivalent of a GTX980ti which has sold for much more.

I can only surmise that the higher price of the founder's editions is to get more revenue from the early adopters.
I see no compelling performance advantage of the founders editions. I do like the blower coolers though.

Ultimately, card vendors will tack on fancy coolers and do some overclocking to get added revenue.
When the supply catches up to the demand, the prices will sort themselves out.

If you need a new card now, go ahead and buy, and do not worry about the price if it does the job for you.

I think the price is reasonable for the performance, especially compared with AMD's 480 specs. It's not obviously better or worse than 2 480s, so I think this price point is pretty reasonable given the added aesthetic features on this thing (loves me some green... please more green mobos?).

Did they say when it's going to be released?

ok lets do math 450+20% VAT taxes ( in UK ) thats 540, and import duties what cost ~140$ per Unit?! ok lets drop 40$ for retailer selling it, now since when it costed 100$ to ship something (not counting VAT) from US to UK such a small box as a GTX 1070? ~200$ for taxes and import duties when the card costs ~450$ you have to be joking... pls think before posting

I am in India & the condition here is worse. A founders edition 1080 costs here Rs. 70000, that is $1060.
I am not joking. The hidden charge is actually the profit amount for sellers.
