Computer turns on but monitor stays on power saving mode?

I just finished putting this thing together. It worked for a bit but when I switched the fan mode on my power supply (it has high, low, and auto) the monitor went into power saving mode and nothing happens when I turn the computer on. I put it back to auto, which is what it was on when I turned the computer on for the first time.
The mouse and keyboard also do not work. Could it be since my power supply only has a 20pin ATX whereas my motherboard has a 24pin? I also had to get an 8pin adapter for the CPU power because my power supply only had a 4pin.
I also can't use the power button to turn the computer off, I had to use the switch on the power supply. My speakers, which are USB powered, do work. But no other USB device seems to.
I'm pretty sure the motherboard is still getting power because the CPU fan kicks on, and my speakers still turn on. The hard drive and RAM were both fine and the computer was reading it properly while it was working.
Nothing looks physically wrong with the motherboard.
I've already tried removing all the RAM to see if I got any beeps but I didn't hear anything.
The model of my motherboard is a Gigabyte ga-f2a78m-d3hs and I know the power supply is kinda dated but it's still a really good power supply.
Would anything else fix it? Or is my motherboard just fried? I bought the motherboard from someone but it was still sealed up and in the box. Is it possible that it could have been sitting so long that the battery died?
Oh and the hdd light on the case stays on (and its solid, not blinking) when the computer is on.

I had same prblm with my LG lcd E2360,couldnt boot up,only Lg logo and then D-Sub power saving mode So,i checked everything, cables, connectors, tried everything, changed Pcle slot of graphics card, but it was fault of graphic card only ,but strangely fan was working fine.So i took to technician and after checking it ,we found that it was a mofset problem in the mother board which was causing graphic card to shut down, out of the 2 mofset near graphic card 1 was faulty so changed it.And now everything is working fine.0.5$ cost and i saved my PC.by the way i have an ASUS P8H77-M PRO motherboard,i-5,RAM 4 Gb vengeance corsair,SMPS GS 600 W CORSAIR,PCI EXP.GF GTX TI 1 GB zotac.

Please upgrade that power supply. Ensure that your new one has an 8pin CPU connector already on it, as well as a 24 pin main motherboard connector... at least one set of 6 and 8 pin GPU connectors should be there on it as well. Do this soon, and don't continue to try to run your system with the older psu. That is all, and good day to you.

So you don't think it's the motherboard? Thank god Lol, that motherboard costs over 150$ brand new, I was really hoping I wouldn't have to replace it. I will save up for a good PSU.

Please see my previous post. I would not have suggested an updated power supply if I didn't think it was necessary for your build. Just out of curiosity, what is the +12V Amp rating of your power supply?
