Hi
5 years after buying my Alienware Aurora R3 it finally found its master in Just Cause 3. Everything I tried apart from that game worked at least on minimum settings including Witcher3 and GTA5.
I am no expert, but looking at all components I think that apart from a missing SSD the graphics card seems to be completely out of date, while the rest is more or less still able to carry me through 2-3 years of gaming. Now I've read here and on other boards that Alienware desktops have a tendency to not work well with new components and upgrades in general, which is why I would really appreciate to hear from people who actually upgraded any Alienware desktop succesfully.
My idea was to remove the AMD Radeon HD6900 and replace it with a Geforce GTX 970, which is below 300 Euro and a lot better than spending above 1k for a new system.
My current system can be found here:

OS:
Windows Version Microsoft Windows 7 (6.1) Home Premium Edition 64-bit
Windows Subver. Service Pack 1 (Build 7601

Question basically is: Do you agree to my thoughts and do you have any idea whether this would be compatible? Can you recommend any specific graphics card?
And in terms of tech, please speak to me like you would to a young child or a Golden Retriever. Thanks for feedback in advance.

Solution
I would wait for the 1070's to become more available. For not much more money you get a GPU that outperforms a TitanX and uses less power then the 970.
