Hi, I'm building my new computer and I'm thinking of getting:
i5 6600k (overclocked to about 4.5ghz)
R9 390
8GB ram
1tb HDD
250GB SSD

So I was wondering, if 630watt (390 requieres 650 watt?) or 700watt PSU is enough. Thanks.

well it tops around 450 ish, depending. also adding some overclocks bring you pretty close to 500w

that being, even high quality PSUs under load so close the rated outputs (even tier ones) can fail much sooner.

that's why I recommend a 650w

The thing is, I can get 630w PSU from Thermaltake quite cheaply, so if I want 700w PSU for example be Quiet, I'd cost me at least 30$. So is 630w the same as 650w? Should it still run on 630w and not fail?

The R9 cards are relatively power hungry.
A R9-390 needs a 6 and a 8 pin power connector.
That will usually be found on 600-650w power supplies.
It is not the wattage that is important, but the 12v amps. A cheap psu will get it's wattage rating not on the 12v lines where it is needed, but elsewhere.
More importantly, a cheap psu will not have the protective circuitry to keep from damaging other parts if it should fail under load.
Really, try to buy a tier 1 or 2 psu.
Usually, a 650w psu does not cost much more than 500w.
If a 500w unit is enough less expensive, then perhaps a similarly performing GTX970 that runs on 500w would be a smarter buy.
Today, the gpu market is in some upheaval with the GTX1070 and RX480 announcements.
It might be a good time to sit on the sidelines, or buy used from panicked sellers.
Here is a chart for the psu requirements for other graphics cards:

Between a cheap 630W PSU such Thermaltake Smart 630W which is tier four on the PSU list and a high quality 520W PSU such as the Seasonic S12-II which is tier two, you would be much better off with the 520W PSU in the long run - the Seasonic in this case may outlive two or three Thermaltake units despite its lower sticker rating.

"Shockingly," higher quality PSUs contain higher quality components and better design which enables them to last longer at loads closer to their maximum ratings.

Yes I agree. Though I mean the s12ii is cheaper by a few bucks. The high current gamer is pretty good too, plus the semi modular. I'd say it's a go if you can afford it.

Cheaper 650w PSUs are the antec earthwatts green for 60 bucks, which is cheaper than the S12II. Anyways these are all good PSUs.
