Dual Booting Win/Linux & Bootable Partition

Hey all, hope this thread can go here.

Basically I'm trying to dual boot Windows 7 and Slackware Linux. I have 3 partitions: Windows 7, Slackware Linux, and a swap partition, in that order. I've installed the LiLO boot loader to the Slackware Linux Partition.

The problem is that when I make the Linux partition bootable (so I can use LiLO to choose between Win7/Linux) and then boot into Windows 7, it doesn't list Windows as an OS in the run > msconfig > boot tab. Basically Windows 7 loads up fine, but it doesn't see itself as an available OS. If I make the Windows 7 partition bootable then it DOES see itself under the boot tab, but then I can't boot into Linux.

You can see the difference below:
Windows 7 is bootable
Slackware Linux is bootable

I'm wondering if this might lead to future issues, that's why I want to fix it. Even if the system loads up just fine.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your LiLO bootloader is replacing the windows one and you should keep it active. Windows bootloader does not (easily) support chainloading a linux os while lilo(or grub or whatever bootloader you choose) will happily detect and run your windows install. You are doing it right by making the partition with lilo active and using that to get into your linux and windows installs. No need to be concerned.

On a side note. If you update windows to 8/10/whatever it WILL overwrite the bootloader so you will have to do a "repair" install of slackware or just "repair" LiLO ... Something to keep in mind further down the line.
