Random horizontal lines running across the monitor

Hi everyone.

For some odd reason, my monitor as recently acquired a big set of grey/white horizontal lines that run across the whole screen! The color of the lines isn't static (I'll explain this below), but they won't go away!

It's not a windows issue, I saw the lines in the BIOS, and when I turned the monitor back on during the display-loading time. It's an issue with the monitor itself.

So, if I run the cursor across the bottom, very close to the bottom of the display, all of line-portions directly above the mouse will become white. If I move the mouse left or right, the whitened portions will follow. although if I move the cursor a little lower, the thickness of the white-portions decreases a bit. It's tricky to explain. I've included some photos of the actual lines:

Yeah, definitely seems like a monitor issue.
However, in order to be sure, it would be great if you could test it.
Try a new cable, and connect the monitor to anything else other than your PC.

A friend's computer will do. Since its a monitor, its basically plug and play so there's no installations or anything necessary.

In any case, from what little I can tell, it seems like the panel is dying, so maybe its time to start looking for a new monitor. (Or find someone who can fix it for cheap, but I seriously doubt it)
Again, would be great if you can test and confirm its dying.

This just got weirder. I opened up paint to illustrate the cursor-moving phenomena, and this thing happened:

what the heck!!!!

edit: Ignore the broader fainter lines at the top and middle, you can't see that in real life. I don't know what the name for that is, but it's fairly common in cheap monitors/

Very strange issue. It seems like its reflecting stuff that is towards the middle of the screen. Except its distorted.

If I were you, I'd try connecting it with a different cable. Like for example, if you're using an HDMI cable, use a D-Sub or DVI, and also try using the on-board gpu instead of the discrete one (if you have a discrete).

But chances are, the monitor is faulty.
Given the nature of the issue, it might just be repairable, although your best bet is to RMA it back if its under warranty.

Sadly, it's around 3 years old now, so I doubt it's covered under warranty (plus the monitor itself is expired, there's a newer version). Unfortunately, it only connects via a VGA cable, so I'm not able to try going with HDMI. I'll try grabbing another VGA cable however. (also, my mobo doesn't have an on-board gpu). It's also distorting from the bottom too :/

I've included 2 more images, the first one is a better image for the bottom distortions too. http://imgur.com/a/7IffI

edit: Nope, strictly a problem with the monitor

I didn't even have to connect it to anything, I unplugged it, and during the screen that says "no cable connection", the lines were still there :( Looks like I'm off getting a new monitor. Thanks anyways!

edit: Problem is temporarily fixed. I shook it like I was trying to kill a baby, and it randomly got rid of the lines. I think it's a loose connector. Is it possible to find a permanent fix for this problem, or am I stuck with this temporary solution?

Really dont know. You'd have to talk to someone who has experience repairing monitors.
If it were me, I'd open the monitor to see what's happening inside. Maybe something something is loose like you said, or maybe something that can be repaired by re-soldering.

Would be great if someone with experience could take a look at it.
