Hello, I am new to UPS and I've always just had my computer plugged into a normal power strip connected from a wall outlet.

Lately I've been getting random power outages due to rain and lightning storms and so I get worried that my computer can get damaged.

I was wondering what UPS would you all recommend for my computer and monitor just for enough time that I can shut down my PC when the power goes out.

My PC has an XFX PSU I think it's around 750W or so and a GTX 770.

I saw on newegg there's a lot but varies from VA. How much do you think is enough for me? Is 1500 enough or is that too much?

Thanks!

A quality 1500VA is a good size. That is what I use on all my equipment. The best quality UPS units are commercial units purchased used on e-bay and then new batteries installed. The APC Smart-UPS or Smart-UPS RT are the best.

Wow the Smart UPS are quite expensive, what about the APC BR1500G? Does it have to be an APC Smart or is this BR1500G good too? I see they are both 1500 but the BR1500G is much cheaper.

Look at how large the Smart-UPS are compared to the other units. That is more batteries which means a lot in UPS land. Like I said, I buy used commercial units off E-Bay with no batteries in them to save shipping costs and buy new batteries.

Tomshardware does some UPS reviews and teardowns, and you wouldn't believe how utterly crappy a lot of the UPS's are out there. If you really want a UPS for good protection, you should invest the money into a quality UPS, which will be expensive but in the end much better.
