Looking to buy r9 390

I have been planning a build for a while now and I finally have enough money to buy it. The problem is, I was planning to get an R9 390 for the graphics card but now that the GTX 1070 is out I am unsure as to how long the R9 390 will last. My fears are that the r9 390 will not be powerful enough to run the next generation's games at mid/high settings. I wish to keep my build within a 1500AUD price range. Should I still buy the 390 or should I get a 1070? if I should get a 1070 then is there anyway I can get one but still stick to the same price range?

Solution
1) The prices of the GTX1070 are fairly well set so not sure we can help you there, except to see if waiting allows any overpricing to sort itself out.

2) The RX-480 is a very good value, though I'd get the 8GB model. Not sure AUD pricing but it's $230MSRP USD pricing (4GB model is $200MSRP) whereas the GTX1070 is $380MSRP (real cards cost more but just so you can compare the cost).

3) Yes, the GTX1070 is faster, but again also more expensive.

Also, from what we know so far the RX-480 is almost certainly going to do a bit better in most DX12 games. Not better necessarily than the GTX1070 but it will close the gap a bit.

Unfortunately we have no benchmarks so for DX11 if comparing similar cards (such as Asus Strix variant) the...

Unfortunately we have no benchmarks so for DX11 if comparing similar cards (such as Asus Strix variant) the RX-480 might be 70% to 80% as powerful. A lot depends on how well it overclocks.

4) We do NOT know if the RX-480 has the same VR enhancements either that can allow up to 1.6X performance boosts. I doubt it, but we just don't know. If VR interests you then you need to know that before committing.

I agree with ak47jar3d and photonboy above. Like they said, either go with the 1070 as it will most likely be faster but at the same time cost more or go with the RX 480 when it comes out as it will most likely be better than a 390 with significantly less power and a lower price.
