Wired Xbox 360 Controller not Working on Windows 10

I recently picked up an Xbox 360 controller to use with my laptop to make mobile gaming more easy, but so far i have had little success getting it to work. I have looked at various forums, and none of the solutions have worked for me. I have tried updating the driver in the device manager, but the controller shows up under the Universal Serial bus Controllers section, and not under the Other devices section, and the Xbox 360 drivers do not show up under this section, but they do show up for devices listed under Other Devices. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It SHOULD appear under its own heading "XBOX 360 peripherals".

The driver should exist by default, so all you should need do is plug it in.

I suggest trying it with a different USB connection, and if that fails try a different PC. Not sure why it's detected but not configured properly though.

I tried it on my desktop as well but i got the same result. I read that some people had their controllers show up under the other devices tab in device manager and all they needed to do was update the driver with the Xbox ones but my controller does not show up there for what ever reason and the xbox drivers do not show up under the universal serial bus tab.

if its not showing up its likely damaged.
when you plug it in do you hear a connection bloop and when you pull it out of the usb do you hear another but a different tone?
if not, again its likely broken.
as photonboy said it should show up in device manager under 360 controllers (rite at the bottom of the list)

sometimes when they were connected to a 360 and the 360 rrd it would take the controller with it when it died.

Yes it does make a connection tone when i plug it in and a different one when i unplug it. When i plug it in it says Usb Device Not Recognized, the controllers lights light up for a few seconds and then turn off .

open device manager and under view tab eneable show hidden devices.
if the 360 controller shows up at the bottom of the list open its tab and remove the driver.
reboot the machine making sure your connected to your internet
then plug in the controler.
if everything is working windows will install a fresh driver from microsoft from over the web.
you will see a box in the bottom right showing the driver installing. and hopefully will give a message ready to use.
if not remove the controller, open device manager and remove the usb bus controller drivers, reboot and let windows install a new driver for that also.
plug the controller back in and it should have then instaledl both drivers properly.

I tried that, and when the computer turned back on the controller popped right back under the Universal Serial Bus section as an Unknown Device

Force the driver install mate

right click the unknown device in device manager

update driver software
browse my computer for driver software
let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
will bring a list up
double click xbox 360 peripherals
select xbox 360 controller for windows
click next
click yes to the warning
