Hi guys!

I will be upgrading my pc from an Asrock z97 extreme 4 + i7 4790k to an Asus z170 maximus VIII formula + i7 6700k.
Currently I have windows 7 installed on my system and i was wondering if I should upgrade to windows 10 before upgrading my motherboard and cpu, since windows 7 doesn't work well with skylake (or so I've read).
Any help on how I should tackle this motherboard/cpu and/or windows upgrade without losing too much of the installed applications/data would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Make sure Win is up to date, make the new build plug your drive in and boot up ;) Win generally will adapt itself to your new hardware, load the latest mobo divers and BIOS for the mobo (from the manufacturers website, the disk that comes with it will prob be out of date, the run a registry cleaner (Wise has a good free version) , check Win for additional updates and re-activate Win. Have done this on over 10 rigs so far, the bulk of my clients are holding off on Win 10. None have had problems with 7 ;)

I've read somewhere that I'll have to uninstall all of the drivers (not only those of the Asrock motherboard) on my pc (including those of the GPU, sound, monitor,...) before changing out my motherboard/CPU/RAM. (Done so by looking at the drivers in "Device manager")
Is this correct or unnecessary?

Also is it possible that I get the error "inaccessible boot device" (as stated in this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2752682/windows-z97-z170-motherboard.html ) and if so, how would I fix that?

Thanks in advance!

It worked (data and applications intact), except for the fact that I can't connect to a network (no driver) and I can't download the drivers via the external asus-cdrom or a usb (it won't detect anything in the usb-ports except the mouse/keyboard). I thought the problem could be the fact that I can only contect those external devices via usb 3.0 ports (don't have any 2.0 on my case or rear IO) and you need a driver to run those.
Any help would be appreciated!
