I've been out of the PC building game for a while, so I'm coming around to everything again, so sorry if this is an idiot-question.
Speaking exclusively for Intel boards, what's the best socket and chipset available now, for a midrange system? Do we expect any updates on the horizon immediately? My title is a bit of a misnomer, as I'm looking for something that will last a good long while, but not a $500 board. I just don't want to get caught with a socket that's on its way out or in the middle of a cycle, (similar to a situation of buying a 960 vid card when the RX480 is about 15 days from kicking your door down).
FWIW, I do illustration / graphic design and gaming. No insane rendering or other such things that would require an i7 proc (I don't think, anyway).
Thanks!
