is it okay to use ddr3 ram if cpu only suports ddr3 so dimm?

if i use a motherboard that supports ddr3 but my cpu supports ddr3so-dimm or ddr4 is it okay?
is anything gonna break?

An SO-DIMM is physically different than a standard DIMM. SO-DIMMs are used in laptops and small form factor devices. A motherboard has to have a slot specific for an SO-DIMM, or a DDR3 DIMM or a DDR4 DIMM. Some Skylake motherboards support DDR3L (low voltage) OR DDR4 DIMMs.
