Hard drive sounds like it has sand in it?

So the computer I just finished building isn't working. The screen stays on power saving mode. It messed up when I switched my power supply to high (the fan setting). I know I need a new PSU (the one I got is a little dated, only a 20pin ATX and 4 pin CPU power)

But through my troubleshooting, I realized my hard drive sounds like there's sand in it when I shake it. I assume that means i need a new one? Could it be the hard drive that's causing the computer to not work?

Solution
A computer doesn't need a harddrive to POST and be able to enter the bios. All you need is Motherbd, CPU, CPU Fan, and ram.
Try it without the HDD and see if you can get into the bios and navigate around.
Hi there SarahSoAwesome,

I would totally agree with popatim. If your system won't work without the HDD, then you will need to troubleshoot your other components as well. Re seating all of them may be a good starts.
Apart from that, your HDD shouldn't really sound that way. You can attach it to another system and see if it will be recognized over there.
