Do Android launchers drain battery faster?

I bought a Moto G third gen yesterday, that night i installed all my apps, and download "Hola Launcher". The guy from the shop told me to let it die and then charge it for 18 hours, this sounded ridiculous to me and i investigated in google. I found out that Lithium-ion batteries didn't needed to charge for such time, and that it was enough until it reached 100% to unplug it, i also read that it's not good to let it fully discharge or let it overcharge. The thing is that this morning my battery has used 18% battery in 3 hours, but now i reached home and started using it actively and i've noticed the battery goes down 1% every 2-3 minutes and this really worried me. I logged off facebook and now it seems to last more. Am i being paranoid or this launcher is draining my battery? ( i only like this launcher for the design, but it comes with a lot of widgets and stuff)

Different launchers have different graphics effects with different framerates, so yes they can affect battery life (when using the launcher). The better ones have options to turn off or reduce the framerates of some of those effects to help you save battery life. The default Android interface is itself a launcher, so whether a new launcher drains battery faster or slower depends on if it's less or more efficient than the default Android launcher.

When you're in an app though, the launcher is (or should be) passive and not use any battery life. The Facebook app is a known battery hog. You may want to test if using Facebook via the browser results in less battery drain.

Yes running down your Li-ion battery to 0% is bad for the battery. But it's the only way for your device or software to calibrate to the battery's capacity. You should do it when you buy a new device, and then every few months, especially after a major OS update or reinstall. It's not really necessary after installing a new app, unless the app has some sort of battery monitoring feature.

Now that i logged off facebook, the phone consumed hardly 1% while being iddle for an hour, compared to the 6% an hour with facebook :).
