Hi,

I just installed a new HDD for storage, but some software doesn't allow you to choose the file location to save the downloaded files (as far as I know that is). I downloaded the Adobe Reader .exe file and when I ran it, the program just installed the software to some folder on me C: drive (I for get the name of the exact folder). How do I choose my where I want files and software to be downloaded to ect?

Thanks for your time! :)

no problem. you can also do similar things to move the "my documents" folder and other defaults to your second drive as well. it's easy to change the default download folder in whatever browser you use if you're intent is to keep anything from going to the primary drive if possible.

The vast majority of applications allow you to choose the drive to install to. Select Custom or Advanced at install time.
Some don't.

But overall, applications like that are tiny, and have no real impact on used drive space.

For other stuff, see this:
Win 7 & 8: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1834397/ssd-redirecting-static-files.html
Win 8.1 & 10: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2024314/windows-redirecting-folders-drives.html

often you have to chose the "advanced" or "custom" settings to get this option. but some software does not do allow this. you would need tell windows to change the default to somewhere else. here is a guide for win 7 and vista http://www.intowindows.com/change-default-installation-directory-in-windows-7-vista/

but it hols for the other os's except for win 10 if i recall right. what os are you using?

As mentioned, the vast majority of applications give you the choice of where to install.
Some don't.

But unless you have some real need, do not fret.

then this link is the one you want. will change the default directory from c: program files to whatever you wish. i'd suggest simply d: program files if that is the second drive you installed. quick and simple change in the registry
