I have a 5 year old dekstop pc I have always been using. Lately Ive noticed that the pc started performing slowly in games , so I started cleaning it as always. This time I took the cpu heat sink off and cleaned it . I placed everything back without replacing the thermal paste (it was old and dry). Now the temperatures are around 50-60 C on idle, and as soon as I do anything they jump to 70 C, before taking off the heat sink it was 40 C on idle, and max 60 C on heavy load.

Did I do something wrong? The heat sink isnt moving , so I am guessing is not placed badly. Fans work as usual.

I dont know if it helps but my CPU is a Pentium Dual Core E 5700 @ 3.00 GHz

Solution
thermal paste is an important thing, don't forget to reapply them with new paste if they're getting old and losing performance.
