I recently fixed my desktop up from a spill, and it worked fine. About 2 days ago, the wi-fi on it would act as if it was disconnected, but it wasn't. Nothing works on it, I have entered the command prompt and pinged google.com and many other sites I attempt to use and it doesn't work. It's a problem on my end, but I don't know what to do. The internet doesn't disconnect, it stays connected but won't work. This happens every 10-20 minutes for 1-5 minutes usually.

I don't have wireless connection on my PC normally so I use a Netgear USB to connect wirelessly. I have tried to disable and reenable it, uninstall and reinstall its drivers, move what USB it's plugged into, everything. Thanks in advance ^_^

Solution
Try this before going any further.

To run the Network troubleshooter

In the search box on the taskbar, type Network troubleshooter, and then select Identify and repair network problems from the list of results.

Follow the steps in the troubleshooter and see if that fixes the problem.

If that doesn’t fix your connection problem, try these things:

Reset the TCP/IP stack

Release the IP address

Renew the IP address

Flush and reset the DNS client resolver cache

To run these networking commands in a command prompt window

In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, right-click (or press and hold) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.

At the command prompt, run the...

No, the USB adapter wasn't included in it. Basically every part except those that you would plug in. The adapter is a NETGEAR WNDA3100v3 N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter according to drivers.

No idea then. Might be worth getting a cheap replacement USB adapter and try that. At least then you'd know if the current adapter was the problem or if it's something on the motherboard due to the spill. Do any other USB devices seem to be having issues?

Have you tried resetting the router?

I'm pretty bad at this stuff, would resetting the router do anything? Out of 5 in the house I'm the only one with the problem. I'll try the cheap replacement for a USB adapter and see if that works. It's been very frustrating, I hope it gets fixed. Thanks for your help ^_^

Yeah, if other devices are connecting fine it usually won't be related to the router, but, I have seen a router reset cure an IP configuration problem that occured on only one device more than once. Might also not be a bad idea to run the Networking troubleshooter.

What windows version are you running and are there, or have there been, ANY other issues related to the operating system or hardware prior to the "spill"?

My PC has crashed once or twice in the 2 years I've owned it, but nothing else. I'm running Windows 10 as of ~3 months ago.

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

And here are some further things to check into.
